Railway

Technometer has extensive experience in the railway sector, having worked on several crucial projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Romania.

This is just another proof of our skills and reliability, as infrastructure of the magnitude of a rail network requires a topographical foundation of absolute certainty.

Case Study:

Client: International railroad contractor

Scope: Execution of the topographic survey operations necessary to install the track in a high-speed railway project (300 km double track – 250 Km/h speed), including verification of the topographic network and analysis of the status of the related benchmarks; track alignment stake-out; execution of the track topographic service operations for the construction phases, including tamping surveys; execution of track as-built survey of the total length of the tracks by means of a proper trolley system; and sub-ballast level verification (top of the embankment).

Results: In high-speed rail, precision is the ultimate safety feature. Our mission is to ensure that every millimeter of the 300 km alignment is perfectly placed to handle the immense dynamic loads of high-speed transit.

Our involvement spans the entire lifecycle of the track-laying process, ensuring continuity and geodetic integrity from the first stake-out to the final as-built certification.

  1. Geodetic Network Verification & Benchmark Analysis

Before construction begins, a “source of truth” must be established. We performed rigorous verification of the tertiary network and validation of the existing benchmarks to ensure a unified, error-free coordinate system across the entire 300 km corridor, preventing any discrepancies during the joining of different construction lots.

  1. Sub-Ballast & Embankment Verification

The stability of the track starts with the foundation: we conduct precise top-of-embankment surveys to verify sub-ballast levels to ensure that the earthworks meet strict design specifications before the expensive ballast and track-laying process begins.

  1. Track Alignment Stake-out & Construction Services

The transition from a cleared site to a high-speed rail corridor requires constant monitoring: our surveyors execute the precise stake-out of the track alignment, ensuring the horizontal and vertical curves align with the design with sub-centimeter accuracy.

  1. Tamping Surveys

During the ballast stabilization phase, to achieve the perfect geometry required for high-speed stability, the ballast must be “tamped” with extreme precision. We execute three separate tamping surveys over the total length of the tracks.

By utilizing specialized topographic trolley systems, we provide the tamping machines with high-frequency data, ensuring the longitudinal and transverse profiles are optimized for high-speed loads.

  1. High-Efficiency As-Built Surveys via Trolley System

Before the line is handed over for operation, we will conduct a final, exhaustive as-built survey. Using a specialized railway trolley system equipped with high-precision sensors, we will map the final position of the entire track length providing a digital record of the final rail position with extreme accuracy and significantly faster than traditional tripod-based methods. This data is essential for future maintenance of the infrastructure and safety audits.
